Rachelle Bomberg -"BEYOND BOUNDARIES"

4 August - 22 September 2010

Rachelle was born and educated in London. She studied art at Johannesburg College of Art, 1973-1976.
Rachelle has lived in Cape Town since 1976.

On 4 August 2010, Christiaan Barnard will be privileged to present a selection of Rachelle Bomberg’s works at the acclaimed Barnard Gallery in Newlands, Cape Town. After recent years of life changes and extensive travels, including the creation of a museum of her work at Windermere House, Rachelle has taken the decision to re-enter the art scene. She brings with her an immense enthusiasm to build an awareness of art as a truthful and enriching essence of society.

Rachelle Bomberg has created a world of great depth and imagination by reflecting the times and changes through which she has lived in a unique, personal vision that resists definition. Each of Rachelle´s enticing works has many layers of meaning, and these are pieces that extend ‘beyond boundaries’. Rachelle finds that the emotive quality of oils, married to an intense style that expresses classical painting through contemporary eyes, allows her to best capture her visions. Her work does not adhere to anything prescribed or fashionable and seeks to transcend worldly issues, making a substantial impact on those who see it.

Niece of David Bomberg, foremost British painter of the 20th century, Rachelle burst onto the art scene after her first solo exhibition at the Lidchi Art Gallery in 1979, and has subsequently featured in many prestigious exhibitions worldwide. Over the past thirty years Rachelle Bomberg’s profile kept on rising, with over 150 works being housed in bespoke corporate and private collections around the world. In recent years, many of her pieces have presented a light and joyful exploration of her direct experience of nature living near False Bay, as she is surrounded by an abundance of inspiration and the ever-changing moods of light, sun and sea-mists.

‘Beyond Boundaries’ will be a fantastic opportunity for individuals to access a selection of Rachelle Bomberg’s unique and powerful works. “I feel Chris Barnard and his gallery have a freshness that I am excited to be part of,” says Rachelle, speaking of the exhibition, which will showcase a group of 13 significant paintings by this important artist.
